Zafar Abbas Zafar and Sohail Shah 2003 (Islamabad)

Assalam o Alaikum,

Allama Hasan Zafar Naqvi (of Karachi) was invited for a series of five majalis 'khamsa' at Markazi Imambargah, G-6/3 Islamabad, back in 2003. He introduced Zafar Abbas Zafar and Sohail Shah at this khamsa, who at that time were not relatively known as poets. They instantly made their mark on the local public and from that time on, they have been regular reciters at various majalis in northern Pakistan.

The playlist below contains most, if not all, of the kalam that these two recited at the Markazi Imambargah during their stay in Islamabad. This playlist is a valuable resource for those momineen who wish to recite kalam at majalis as it contains various Rubai, Manqabat, Qasida, Salam, Marsiya, and Tabarra.

Nadeem Sarwar in Hussainia Hall 2006 (Peshawar)

Assalam o Alaikum,

Syed Nadeem Raza Sarwar was invited to our 9th annual Shab Bedari programme (8th year) which was conducted at Hussainia Hall, Saddar, Peshawar. This Shab Bedari was Nadeem Sarwar's 5th Shab Bedari recitation in Peshawar. He was invited for the first time in 1999 (Inshallah more on this Shab Bedari series later.)

A unique aspect of this Shab Bedari was that Nadeem Sarwar proceeded in full Zakirana style and conducted majlis-o-matam himself. Nadeem Sarwar started with reciting Hamd & Manqabat followed by Masaib and Nohay. He recited nearly 25 kalam in this programme. This Shab Bedari is presented below:

Syed Hussaini Pashto Noha Album 2009 (Kohat)

Assalam o Alaikum,

After listening to Syed Hussaini in a live program in Hussainia Hall, Saddar, Peshawar, I was compelled to acquire Syed Hussaini's Pashto Noha album. An aunt very graciously gave me Syed Hussaini's 2009 noha album as a gift. I found Syed Hussaini as tremendously gifted and I have uploaded this album especially for the brave Pashto speaking momineen of northern Pakistan who have given numerous sacrifices over the years in defense of their religion & way of life.

Chakwal Party 'Geo Group' 2005 (Chakwal)

Assalam o Alaikum,

Over the years, various matami sangatain have gained fame for their heart wrenching nohay or style of matam and azadari. Chakwal party has both. Even as a child, I had memories of groups coming from Chakwal to attend majalis and juloos in Islamabad. These groups had a unique style of matam where they literally would spring a few inches off the ground while doing matam . This would increase the intensity of their matam to a new level.

The videos below don't really show this unique style of matam; however, by listening to the nohay, you will realize their amazing heritage. Whereas I've managed to only upload a single album (2005) from Chakwal party, one can find many more latest albums online in both audio and video format.

Asad Abbas and Ali Abbas Album 2008 (Faisalabad)

Assalam o Alaikum,

During a Shab Bedari in 2008, Asad Abbas came to Peshawar along with his uncle Hasan Sadiq and cousin Raza Hasan. He gave us his first noha album in cassette form which I happily digitized and made available for momineen. His brother Ali Abbas is also named in the title; however, I recognize the voices of both brothers and based on my own judgement, I think he has recited most nohay in this album himself.

Just as a reference for momineen, this whole family is involved in Azadari (though there are a few who are involved in professional singing as well). Asad Abbas and Ali Abbas are the nephews of Hasan Sadiq, Sharafat Ali, and Nazakat Ali. Asad Abbas and Ali Abbas are also the cousins of Raza Hasan and Amanat Ali. All of these people have achieved successes in their professional lives. Hasan Sadiq, Sharafat Ali, and Raza Hasan are involved in reciting nohay and qasiday, whereas the others are mostly involved in professional singing; however, due to their religious beliefs, they are also involved in azadari during the holy months of Moharram and Safar.

This series of videos was acquired from a brother, S Mubashir Ali, who I'd like to acknowledge for his tremendous services to the propagation of azadari in Peshawar.
